HHMI’s $2 billion Commitment to Inclusion and Excellence

I lead Institute wide efforts related to data, analytics and measurement.

For US science, one of today’s most pressing challenges is to maximize scientific impact by building a workforce that fully reflects our country. From pioneering medications to transformative technologies, we can’t afford to leave talent behind. We need everyone.

In 2021, HHMI committed $2 billion to increase inclusion and excellence in science and to foster environments in which everyone can thrive. We believe the continued preeminence of US science depends on all of us doing a much better job of attracting, educating, mentoring, and advancing people from all backgrounds. A major focus of HHMI’s strategy is to influence academic science at key points along career pathways.
